BECKETT SPORTS CARD HOT / COLD – JANUARY 15, 2022

[Beckett]

Welcome to another edition of Beckett Sports Card Hot/Cold where we have fun and take a quick look at what’s hot and not in the worlds of sports cards and sports.

The 2021-22 basketball card season has arrived. While there have been a handful of collegiate products and some online offerings already, the release of 2021-22 NBA Hoops has gotten the mainstream releases rolling. That means Rookie Cards from Cade Cunningham and the rest of the 2021 draft class for the foreseeable future.

Not surprisingly, Hoops is off to a quick start. Pent up demand is surely part of it, but the product itself comes with a nice mix of card types and styles. Like a lot of their products, Panini has done a good job developing its inserts with a variety of exclusives and some with differing rarities.

As far as players go, Ja Morant continues to show all the makings of being among the NBA’s elite. His athleticism and explosive plays ensure regular highlight reel appearances and social media shares. The latest came this week with a breathtaking block against Avery Bradley of the Lakers.

Heading into the NFL playoffs, a couple of Cincinnati Bengals still find themselves among the hottest players in the hobby. Ja’Marr Chase is a Rookie of the Year favorite, finishing with 1,455 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns. As a receiver, he might not garner the same level of attention of Mac Jones or some of the season’s other rookie quarterbacks. That said, Chase is looking like an elite talent. Teammate Joe Burrow has rebounded big time this year following an early exit in 2020 due to injury. Needless to say, a lot of eyes are on the Bengals right now.

This week’s Hot/Cold is brought to you by Dynasty Breaks.
