BECKETT SPORTS CARD HOT / COLD – AUGUST 21, 2021

Welcome to another edition of Beckett Sports Card Hot/Cold where we have some fun and take a quick look at what’s hot and what’s not in the worlds of sports cards and sports.

It has been an eventful week in the hobby to say the least. While much of that has to do with the business side of things and the future, the cards were still moving.

With the arrival of 2021 Topps Chrome this week, it has been back-to-back blockbuster baseball releases. The wrappers are still flying from 2021 Topps Allen & Ginter coming out last week. For Chrome, it’s the usual mix of Refractors and rookie autographs. They might not be tough, but the checklist has some colorful inserts as well. Collectors should also be on the lookout for variation short prints as well.

In basketball, 2020-21 Select continues to be a strong mover at both the hobby and retail levels. There’s also 2020-21 National Treasures delivering its super-premium content like Rookie Patch Autographs.

As far as players go, Shohei Ohtani is starting to reach some major milestones on the season, most notably launching his 40th home run this past week.

Although not so much a surprise to wrestling fans, the return of CM Punk to the ring, this time with AEW, has quickly kickstarted his cards again. His Rookie Card is in 2004 Pacific TNA in case you were wondering. Besides a base card, he also has a Red parallel and appears on a Tag Teams insert as well with Julio Dinero.

This week’s Hot/Cold is brought to you by Dynasty Breaks.
