Padres vs. Brewers, Braves vs. Dodgers — October 4, 2026

October baseball is officially here, and Sunday’s MLB postseason slate gives us two intriguing National League matchups: San Diego Padres vs. Milwaukee Brewers and Atlanta Braves vs. Los Angeles Dodgers.

With playoff baseball, regular-season numbers only tell part of the story. Matchups become magnified, managers have quicker hooks, bullpens are deployed aggressively, and one favorable lefty-righty matchup can completely change an inning.

For today’s card, we’re looking beyond simple win-loss records. We’re breaking down starting pitching, pitcher-vs.-batter handedness, recent production, strikeout potential, lineup construction and the most probable game scripts.

SAN DIEGO PADRES vs. MILWAUKEE BREWERS

Starting Pitching

Padres: Michael King — RHP
Brewers: Logan Henderson — RHP

This matchup has the ingredients for one of those tense October games where every baserunner matters.

Henderson enters the matchup with the stronger overall pitching profile, including a 2.47 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and strikeout rate approaching 30%.

King has also been effective, carrying a 3.21 ERA and 1.18 WHIP, but Milwaukee’s lineup construction creates an interesting challenge.

Why Milwaukee’s Left-Handed Bats Matter

King throws right-handed, and Milwaukee has the ability to send several left-handed hitters against him.

That puts hitters such as Brice Turang, Sal Frelick, Christian Yelich, Garrett Mitchell and Jake Bauers into favorable platoon situations.

Rather than automatically hunting home runs, this looks like a matchup where 1+ hit and total-base props could provide better probability.

Sal Frelick — Matchup Sleeper

One hitter who stands out is Sal Frelick.

Frelick has enjoyed previous success against King, making his 1+ hit market one of the more interesting matchup-driven props on Sunday’s board.

The sample isn’t large enough to blindly follow the career numbers, but when previous success lines up with the platoon advantage, it deserves attention.

Projection: Sal Frelick 1+ Hit

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Brice Turang

Turang provides another left-handed matchup against King and brings enough contact ability to make him attractive in the hit market.

Rather than requiring extra-base damage, the simple approach makes sense.

Projection: Brice Turang 1+ Hit

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Jackson Chourio

Chourio doesn’t need a platoon advantage to be dangerous.

His combination of contact, speed and power makes him one of Milwaukee’s most dependable candidates to produce at least one base hit.

Projection: Jackson Chourio 1+ Hit

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Can San Diego Solve Logan Henderson?

This is where the matchup becomes more difficult for the Padres.

Henderson combines run prevention with legitimate swing-and-miss ability. His strikeout rate and low walk rate mean San Diego may have trouble creating extended innings.

That doesn’t mean avoiding every Padre.

Fernando Tatis Jr. remains the San Diego hitter we’re most comfortable backing for an individual hit because of his ability to produce against virtually any pitching profile.

But overall, we’re more interested in Henderson and Milwaukee’s pitching than stacking San Diego hitter props.

Padres vs. Brewers Prediction

Estimated Win Probability

Milwaukee: 52%
San Diego: 48%

This isn’t a matchup where we’re expecting Milwaukee to dominate.

Instead, the most probable script is Henderson limiting San Diego early, Milwaukee’s left-handed hitters forcing King into difficult situations and the game reaching the late innings within one or two runs.

BuckBully Picks

🔥 Brewers +1.5

🔥 Padres/Brewers Under 8.5

🔥 Sal Frelick 1+ Hit

🔥 Brice Turang 1+ Hit

🔥 Jackson Chourio 1+ Hit

ATLANTA BRAVES vs. LOS ANGELES DODGERS

Starting Pitching

Braves: Ray Kerr — LHP
Dodgers: Blake Snell — LHP

This is the game where we see the clearest starting-pitching advantage.

And it belongs to Los Angeles.

Snell enters with elite run-prevention and strikeout numbers, including a 1.90 ERA and a strikeout rate above 30%.

More importantly for betting purposes, Snell’s swing-and-miss arsenal creates multiple ways to attack the matchup without needing the Dodgers to immediately score five or six runs.

Blake Snell vs. Atlanta

Because Snell throws left-handed, Atlanta’s right-handed hitters become the preferred targets if we’re looking for Braves offense.

But we’re not particularly interested in stacking Atlanta hitters against Snell.

We’re attacking the matchup from the opposite direction.

Blake Snell Strikeouts

Snell’s ability to generate swings and misses gives us one of our favorite markets of Sunday’s entire MLB slate.

Rather than taking an aggressive main strikeout number, alternate strikeout markets can provide excellent parlay-building pieces.

BuckBully Projection

🔥 Blake Snell 5+ Strikeouts — STRONG

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

🔥 Blake Snell 6+ Strikeouts

⭐⭐⭐⭐½

🎯 Blake Snell 7+ Strikeouts

Higher risk, but absolutely within his ceiling.

The 5+ strikeout alternate is our preferred combination of probability and usefulness as a parlay piece.

Dodgers Offense vs. Ray Kerr

Kerr shouldn’t simply be dismissed because Los Angeles has the bigger names.

He has pitched well in limited work.

The problem is the opponent.

Los Angeles has enough lineup flexibility to attack a left-handed starter with dangerous right-handed and switch-hitting bats while making Kerr work through difficult at-bats.

That’s especially important in October.

Atlanta doesn’t need Kerr to completely implode before making a move. A few long innings or early traffic could force the Braves into their bullpen sooner than planned.

That makes the Dodgers attractive both on the full-game moneyline and potentially in the first five innings.

Braves vs. Dodgers Prediction

BuckBully Estimated Probabilities

Dodgers Win: 66%

Dodgers Lead After 5: 61%

Blake Snell 5+ Strikeouts: 80%

Blake Snell 6+ Strikeouts: 68%

Atlanta Under 3.5 Runs: 60%

These are matchup-based projections rather than sportsbook implied probabilities.

FINAL WORD

Sunday’s MLB playoff card doesn’t require us to overcomplicate things.

Los Angeles has the strongest overall pitching advantage. Milwaukee has several attractive left-handed hitting matchups. And Blake Snell’s strikeout market provides our favorite individual player angle of the day.

The Brewers-Padres matchup looks much closer, which is why Milwaukee +1.5 is preferable to relying exclusively on the moneyline.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles is our strongest side.
