Bitcoin pushes toward $86K, AI stocks rip higher, and risk appetite returns across markets.
Markets came into this week with one major question: would the Federal Reserve’s latest rate hike kill momentum—or would investors look past it?
So far, the answer has been surprising.
On September 16, the Federal Reserve raised the federal funds target range by 0.25 percentage point to 3.75%–4.00%. The Fed also said economic activity continues to expand at a solid pace, domestic spending remains resilient, and inflation is still elevated.
Instead of triggering a broad risk-off move, stocks and crypto have pushed higher.
Bitcoin is trading around $85,800 after reaching above $87,000 intraday, while Ethereum, Solana and XRP have all posted strong gains.
That raises a bigger question:
Is the market beginning to believe the worst of the tightening cycle is already priced in?
Crypto Wakes Back Up
Bitcoin has been the biggest signal.
BTC is up roughly 5.5% on the day and has traded as high as approximately $87,291. Ethereum is around $2,746, Solana near $118 and XRP around $1.52.
Those aren’t small moves.
More importantly, the strength isn’t isolated to Bitcoin. Money is spreading into major altcoins as traders become more willing to take risk.
That is usually what I want to see during a healthier crypto rally.
Bitcoin leads.
Large-cap altcoins follow.
Then, if momentum survives, capital starts rotating into smaller narratives and more speculative projects.
That does not mean every altcoin will run—or that every rally is sustainable—but participation is clearly broadening.
Why Would Markets Rally After a Rate Hike?
Normally, higher interest rates are considered a negative for growth stocks and speculative assets.
Higher yields make safer investments more attractive, borrowing becomes more expensive, and future earnings get discounted more aggressively.
But markets trade expectations—not just headlines.
The Fed’s statement still described the economy as expanding at a solid pace and noted resilient spending and strong capital investment.
So one interpretation traders appear to be making is:
The Fed raised rates, but the economy has not broken.
If investors believe inflation can cool without a major economic collapse, they may be willing to pay up for growth again.
That is one reason crypto, technology and AI-linked stocks can rise even immediately after tighter monetary policy.
AI and Technology Are Leading Stocks
The stock rally is telling a similar story.
Technology and AI remain where investors seem most willing to chase growth. AMD, for example, is trading around $615 and has risen roughly 10% on the day, with its market capitalization crossing the $1 trillion level in the latest market data.
That matters beyond AMD itself.
Strong semiconductor and AI performance often acts as a measure of investor appetite for higher-growth assets.
When money is aggressively moving into AI stocks while Bitcoin and altcoins are rising at the same time, it points toward a broader risk-on environment rather than an isolated crypto pump.
BuckBully Crypto Holdings: Transparency Matters
We also believe in showing what we’re actually watching and holding rather than pretending every prediction is made from the sidelines.
Here is the BuckBully crypto portfolio snapshot from September 21:
- XRP
- Bitcoin
- Solana
- Stellar Lumens
- Ethereum
- Chainlink
- SUI
- Artificial Superintelligence Alliance/FET
- Tezos
- Cardano
- Pyth Network
- Worldcoin
- Sei
- Balancer
- Jasmy
- Cosmos
- Avalanche
- Polkadot
But this shouldn’t be viewed as a permanent portfolio.
BuckBully constantly reevaluates what we hold, what we add, what we trim and where capital may be better deployed.
Some positions may be long-term holds.
Others may simply be exposure to a developing narrative.
Markets change—and portfolios should be allowed to change with them.
Crypto on the BuckBully Radar
Bitcoin remains the foundation of the market. If BTC can continue holding these higher levels, it creates a much healthier environment for the rest of crypto.
XRP is one of the strongest movers among our larger holdings right now, with the token up nearly 8% on the latest session.
Solana continues to be one of the strongest high-beta major cryptocurrencies. When crypto traders become aggressive, SOL is often one of the first large-cap names to benefit.
Ethereum remains a core ecosystem asset. It may not always outperform during every short-term rally, but ETH continues to be one of the most important assets to watch when measuring broader participation.
Then there is the next group:
Chainlink, SUI, FET, PYTH, WLD and SEI.
These represent several themes we’re watching—AI, blockchain infrastructure, data, oracles and newer network ecosystems.
Higher potential also means higher volatility.
That is exactly why these positions have to be reevaluated instead of treated like automatic forever-holds.
What Could Stop the Rally?
This market is moving higher, but there are still risks.
Interest rates are higher.
Inflation hasn’t disappeared.
Geopolitical uncertainty remains elevated.
And crypto can reverse much faster than traditional stocks.
The Fed itself specifically acknowledged elevated uncertainty tied partly to geopolitical developments.
So while momentum is strong, chasing every green candle is not a strategy.
The biggest test now is whether buyers continue supporting these markets after the first wave of excitement.
BuckBully Market View
The most interesting part of this week’s market isn’t simply that Bitcoin is rising.
It is that multiple risk assets are moving together.
Crypto is climbing.
AI stocks are climbing.
Technology is showing strength.
And investors are showing more willingness to accept risk despite the Fed tightening policy.
That does not automatically mean a new bull market has begun.
But it does mean the market’s tone has changed.
For now, BuckBully is watching three things closely:
Bitcoin holding above recently reclaimed levels, continued strength in technology and AI, and whether the crypto rally expands deeper into altcoins.
If all three continue, this could become much more than a one-day bounce.
If they don’t, we’ll reevaluate.
That’s the point.
Markets change. We change with them.
