What’s at Stake This November?
Republicans enter Election Day with a 53–47 Senate majority, including independents who caucus with Democrats. Democrats need a net gain of four seats to secure control. The House has all 435 seats on the ballot, and the closest Senate contests could determine the next two years of congressional power.
Watch turnout, inflation and affordability concerns, suburban shifts, and late-reported ballots. A state favoring one party in a pre-election forecast is not an official election-night call.
*The 47 include two independents who caucus with Democrats. Forecast ratings snapshot: Cook Political Report, October 30, 2026.
