Description

Designed by George T. Morgan and produced in 1878, the Morgan Silver Dollar series was an instant success. Production of the coins continued until 1904 when they were unable to produce more because of a lack of silver availability in the U.S. After our government had spent hundreds of millions of dollars buying and melting down silver to produce more coins, the series was able to extend into 1921, this time with production including the Denver Mint as well. The obverse side of the coin has an image of Lady Liberty, modeled after a school teacher named Anna Williams. The reverse side of the coin is of a seemingly courageous American Bald Eagle. Both sides are equally praised for their beauty, increasing the numismatic value of the coin.
