BECKETT SPORTS CARD HOT / COLD – SEPTEMBER 18, 2021

[Beckett]

Welcome to another edition of Beckett Sports Card Hot/Cold where we have fun and take a quick look at what’s hot and what’s not in the worlds of sports cards and sports.

Now that there’s a full week of football behind us, the season is starting to take shape. Yes, it’s still extremely early and lots is bound to happen over the next few months, but every week counts in the NFL. There isn’t an 80-plus game season to hide a couple of losses or bad performances. From a hobby perspective, a lot of eyes were on the rookies. Trevor Lawrence, although not awful, grabbed headlines for simply taking his first regular season loss since before high school. Mac Jones looked pretty good in his first start in New England. Like Lawrence, though, it was a losing effort.

One of the biggest rookie standouts from Week 1 was Ja’Marr Chase. In Cincinnati’s win against the Vikings, the receiver made five catches for 101 yards including a beautiful 50-yard touchdown.

Several MLB teams are jockeying for postseason spots as baseball hits its home stretch. A lot of collectors are watching the Toronto Blue Jays right now. They’re making a strong push in the AL East. Not only is Vladimir Guerrero Jr. back on top of the home run leader board, but Bo Bichette is heating up with three home runs in his last seven games. Toronto doesn’t typically get much hobby love outside of Canada but there could be the makings of a fun team to watch if they make a run in the playoffs.

This week’s Hot/Cold is brought to you by Dynasty Breaks.
