BECKETT SPORTS CARD HOT / COLD – AUGUST 7, 2021

Welcome to another edition of Beckett Sports Card Hot/Cold where we have some fun and take a quick look at what’s hot and what’s not in the worlds of sports cards and sports.

It’s been a bit of a quiet week in the hobby. Much of the collecting world is getting back to normal following the big crowds of The National. As far as new cards go, 2021 Panini Gold Standard Football is the lone major release.

For those with a card shop nearby (or for those looking for a day trip to a town or two over), Saturday, August 7 is Topps National Baseball Card Day. The concept is simple: visit a participating shop and get a free pack of cards. There’s also a special Fernando Tatis Jr. card for those who make a qualifying purpose. Head back next Saturday and make another purchase and there’s an Alec Bohm card.

Last week, Joey Votto was ripping it up on the field. This week, it’s rookie teammate Jonathan India. The fifth overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, India has hit five home runs in his last seven games. He’s up to 13 on the season to go with a .283 batting average. If he keeps it up, the Reds will have a serious NL Rookie of the Year contender at season’s end.

This week’s Hot/Cold is brought to you by Dynasty Breaks.
