BECKETT SPORTS CARD HOT / COLD – AUGUST 14, 2021

Welcome to a post-Olympics edition of Beckett Sports Card Hot/Cold where we have some fun and take a quick look at what’s hot and what’s not in the worlds of sports cards and sports.

It’s that time of year where baseball cards get a little weird. 2021 Topps Allen & Ginter Baseball was the week’s big arrival. Besides the usual mix of baseball stars and rookies, the checklist reaches into several other realms. That means cards of singer Marc Anthony, the Hanson Brothers of Slap Shot fame and even kale. It’s not for everyone, but the quirks help make it one of the most popular baseball breaks each year.

2020-21 Select Basketball continues to be strong in hoops. The multi-tiered base set and massive rainbows are the big draw. This year, Panini added a retail element. However, the base cards in these packs are replaced by Blue versions. The idea here is to keep the main base set exclusive to hobby.

With Premier League returning, interest in soccer continues to grow. There has been no shortage of products of late from both Panini and Topps. This week brought 2020-21 Stadium Club Chrome UEFA Champions League. Like baseball, it combines chromium, photography and lots of Refractors.

Don’t forget that today (Saturday) marks the second part of National Baseball Card Day. You can head back to a participating shop and get an exclusive Alec Bohm card with a qualifying purchase.

This week’s Hot/Cold is brought to you by Dynasty Breaks.
