Beckett Sports Card Hot / Cold

[Beckett]

It’s another Beckett Sports Card Hot/Cold where we take a quick look at what’s the equivalent of a scorching summer’s day and what’s a winter’s chill in the worlds of sports and sports cards.

Quarterbacks are carrying a lot of the weight of the hobby right now with the NFL being one of the only pro leagues playing in North America right now. Justin Herbert continues to be a driving force for the Los Angeles Chargers. However, he might be joined by another rookie QB soon if Tua Tagovailoa keeps up his winning ways in Miami. Josh Allen might be in his third year, but he’s the breakout star of 2020, leading Buffalo’s explosive offense. And then there’s Patrick Mahomes. Kansas City’s play caller has already reached a level of superstardom where he’s perennially hot.

Basketball is all about next week’s draft. There’s no clear consensus as to who is going first right now, but collectors have warmed up to LaMelo Ball. James Wiseman and Anthony Edwards are among the other top players in Panini’s 2020 Contenders and Prizm Draft Picks sets. It’ll still be a bit before their first NBA cards arrive, though.

It’s going to be a big couple of weeks for hockey cards. 2020-21 Upper Deck Tim Hortons has arrived in restaurants across Canada. It’s a massive promotion that sees a lot of cards reach a lot of people. Next week, 2020-21 Upper Deck Series 1 is out. With the release of the checklist this week, questions over whether Alexis Lafreniere would be among the Young Guns have been answered. The first overall pick will thanks to an exception to the usual rules surrounding players making their debut before getting their first NHL cards.

This week’s Hot/Cold is brought to you by Dynasty Breaks.
