ALDS Game 2 Analysis, Projections, Player Props & Most Probable Outcomes

The MLB postseason continues Monday, October 5, with a compact two-game American League Division Series slate. With fewer games on the board, the focus shifts from finding action everywhere to identifying where pitching matchups, lineup construction, weather, injuries and postseason strategy create the strongest edges.

Today’s matchups feature the Chicago White Sox at Cleveland Guardians and New York Yankees at Tampa Bay Rays.

Both games have the ingredients for relatively low-scoring baseball, but for different reasons. Cleveland gets favorable pitching weather and a high-strikeout starter, while New York sends one of baseball’s most dominant pitchers to the mound in a game where the Yankees’ offense is missing Aaron Judge.

Here’s how the October 5 slate projects.

Chicago White Sox at Cleveland Guardians

ALDS Game 2

Projected Score: Guardians 4, White Sox 2

Projected Win Probability:
Cleveland — 59%
Chicago — 41%

Pitching Matchup

Anthony Kay, LHP — White Sox

Gavin Williams, RHP — Guardians

The starting-pitching advantage belongs to Cleveland.

Williams enters the postseason after recording 248 strikeouts during the regular season, giving Cleveland a legitimate swing-and-miss weapon for Game 2.

Kay presents a different challenge for the Guardians. As a left-hander, he creates several favorable opportunities for Cleveland’s right-handed and switch-hitting bats.

One of the most important is José Ramírez, who can turn around and hit right-handed against Kay.

That makes Ramírez one of our preferred Cleveland hitters for both hit and total-base markets.

Weather Factor

Weather strengthens the pitching side of this matchup.

Temperatures around first pitch are expected to sit near the low 60s with approximately 10–14 mph winds blowing inward/in from left-center.

That’s important.

Cooler temperatures combined with incoming wind can suppress carry on fly balls. Instead of aggressively chasing home-run props, this environment makes strikeouts, pitching outs, first-five unders and total-game unders more attractive.

Weather Edge: PITCHERS

How Chicago Can Win

Chicago doesn’t necessarily need a big offensive performance.

The White Sox can stay in this game by keeping Cleveland from creating an early crooked inning and forcing the Guardians into another close postseason game.

That makes White Sox +1.5 interesting even though Cleveland is our projected winner.

Chicago’s lineup also gives Williams plenty of left-handed looks, meaning he won’t simply have the platoon advantage throughout the order.

But Williams’ ability to generate strikeouts remains the biggest concern.

Chicago Hit Prop to Watch

Munetaka Murakami — 1+ Hit

Rather than betting Murakami to leave the yard in unfavorable power conditions, the more conservative approach is simply backing him to record a hit.

Prediction: 1+ hit — LEAN

How Cleveland Can Win

The formula is straightforward:

Williams controls the first five innings, Cleveland gets enough production against Kay, and the bullpen protects the lead.

Cleveland should also be willing to become aggressive with its bullpen if Williams encounters trouble. Postseason baseball reduces the value of projecting starters strictly from regular-season workload patterns because managers have considerably less patience.

That’s why we prefer a moderate strikeout threshold instead of demanding seven or eight strikeouts.

Best Cleveland Player Prop

🔥 Gavin Williams — 5+ Strikeouts

Williams’ 248 regular-season strikeouts demonstrate the ceiling.

Five strikeouts gives us enough room to survive a shorter postseason outing while still capitalizing on his swing-and-miss ability.

Prediction: 5+ strikeouts

Confidence: ★★★★½

José Ramírez — 1+ Hit

Ramírez gets one of Cleveland’s more attractive individual matchups against the left-handed Kay.

Instead of relying on power in poor home-run conditions, we’re targeting contact.

Prediction: 1+ hit

Confidence: ★★★★

José Ramírez — 1+ Total Base

This essentially attacks the same matchup from another angle.

Prediction: 1+ total base

Confidence: ★★★★

White Sox–Guardians Game Props

🔥 Guardians Moneyline

Cleveland has the starting-pitching advantage and home field.

Chicago remains dangerous enough that laying a large number isn’t especially attractive, but Cleveland is the side we expect to win.

PICK: GUARDIANS ML

PICK: UNDER 8.5 — STRONG PLAY

White Sox +2.5

This isn’t contradictory to Cleveland ML.

Our projection has Cleveland winning 4–2, but a low-scoring environment increases the probability that the game remains within one run deep into the late innings.

New York Yankees at Tampa Bay Rays

ALDS Game 2

Projected Score: Yankees 3, Rays 2

Projected Win Probability:
New York — 52%
Tampa Bay — 48%

This is the closest matchup on today’s board.

And it may produce the best pitching prop of the day.

Pitching Matchup

Cam Schlittler, RHP — Yankees

Freddy Peralta, RHP — Rays

Schlittler enters with elite numbers:

14–6 record
1.95 ERA
239 strikeouts

That’s legitimate ace production.

Peralta doesn’t carry the same statistical profile, but he gets an important advantage: the Yankees lineup isn’t operating at full strength.

Aaron Judge’s Absence Changes Everything

New York being without Aaron Judge significantly changes the offensive ceiling of this matchup.

Removing an elite power bat from the middle of the lineup creates ripple effects throughout the order.

Pitchers can attack surrounding hitters differently, the probability of multi-run homers decreases and New York has less margin for error offensively.

That is one reason we’re reluctant to make Yankees moneyline one of the strongest bets despite Schlittler’s substantial starting-pitching advantage.

Best Yankees–Rays Player Prop

🔥 Cam Schlittler — 5+ Strikeouts

This is our favorite individual player prop on Monday’s MLB board.

Schlittler recorded 239 strikeouts during the regular season while producing a 1.95 ERA.

We aren’t asking him to reach an extreme postseason number.

Five strikeouts allows for the possibility of a shorter October leash while still taking advantage of his strikeout ability.

PICK: CAM SCHLITTLER 5+ STRIKEOUTS

Confidence: ★★★★★

Aggressive Alternative: Schlittler 6+ Strikeouts

For bettors looking for additional odds, six or more is playable.

Once we move toward seven or eight, however, we’re becoming increasingly dependent on workload as well as performance.

Yankees–Rays Game Props

🔥 Alternate Under 7.5 Runs

Everything points toward another game where runs could be difficult to manufacture.

Tampa Bay won Game 1 by a 1–0 score, and now the Rays have to deal with Schlittler.

Rather than asking for another near-shutout, we’ll give ourselves additional breathing room.

Confidence: ★★★★½

Rays +1.5

This might be more attractive than trying to predict the outright winner.

The game projects extremely close.

New York owns the starting-pitching advantage, but Tampa Bay has home field while the Yankees are missing their most dangerous offensive weapon.

That creates plenty of scenarios where Tampa stays within one run.

Confidence: ★★★★

Yankees Moneyline

Schlittler is enough to give New York a slight projected advantage.

But at approximately 52%, this isn’t a matchup where we want to pretend the Yankees are overwhelming favorites.

PICK: YANKEES ML — LEAN

BuckBully Best Bets — October 5

🔥 BEST PLAYER PROP

Cam Schlittler 5+ Strikeouts — ★★★★★

Elite strikeout production plus a manageable alternate threshold makes this our favorite individual prop.

🔥 BEST CLEVELAND PROP

Gavin Williams 5+ Strikeouts — ★★★★½

Williams’ strikeout production makes five the sweet spot between probability and value.

🔥 BEST HITTER PROP

José Ramírez 1+ Hit — ★★★★

The matchup against a left-handed starter gives Ramírez an attractive opportunity without requiring power in unfavorable home-run weather.

🔥 BEST TOTAL

White Sox–Guardians Under 8.5 — ★★★★★

Cool temperatures, incoming wind and Williams’ strikeout ability all support a lower-scoring game.

🔥 BEST LATE-GAME TOTAL

Yankees–Rays Under 7.5 — ★★★★½

Schlittler anchors the play while Judge’s absence lowers New York’s offensive ceiling.

🎟️ BuckBully October 5 Core Ticket

For a more conservative combination of today’s strongest projections:

🔥 Guardians ML
🔥 Gavin Williams 5+ strikeouts
🔥 José Ramírez 1+ hit
🔥 Cam Schlittler 5+ strikeouts
🔥 Yankees–Rays Under 8.5

For a slightly safer approach, the two strikeout props are the foundation:

Gavin Williams 5+ Ks + Cam Schlittler 5+ Ks

Those are the two pitcher props we trust most on today’s slate.

Most Probable Outcomes

Today’s postseason slate has one overriding theme:

Pitching should control the day.

In Cleveland, cool temperatures and incoming wind combine with Gavin Williams’ strikeout ability to create a favorable environment for run prevention.

In Tampa Bay, Cam Schlittler gives New York a significant pitching advantage, but Aaron Judge’s absence prevents us from becoming overly bullish on the Yankees offense.

Final Score Predictions

Guardians 4, White Sox 2

Yankees 3, Rays 2

BuckBully Projected Winners

🐂 Cleveland Guardians

🐂 New York Yankees

But the strongest opportunities may not be the moneylines.

Our preferred strategy is attacking moderate pitcher strikeout thresholds and plus-1.5 run lines, rather than relying entirely on picking postseason winners.

October baseball tends to shorten managerial patience, increase bullpen usage and magnify every scoring opportunity.

For Monday’s slate, we’re betting accordingly.
