Pregame Picks, Predictions & Player Props
Week 3 of the NFL season brings one of the most interesting Sunday cards yet.
We’ve had two weeks to figure out which early-season trends might actually be real, but we’re still early enough that the betting market can overreact to one great—or terrible—performance.
That makes Week 3 all about matchups.
Buffalo gets another opportunity to flex its muscles at home. Kansas City travels to Miami as a heavy favorite. Cincinnati and Pittsburgh renew their AFC North rivalry. Arizona visits San Francisco. And the late window is headlined by Baltimore and Dallas in what could become the shootout of the afternoon.
Here are my Week 3 Sunday pregame predictions, game leans and player props to watch.
Odds referenced were available before Sunday kickoff and can vary by sportsbook.
🏈 EARLY WINDOW
Chiefs at Dolphins
Pregame line: Kansas City roughly -10
Total: 45.5
Kansas City is laying a big number on the road, but this is the type of matchup where Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs should eventually separate themselves.
Miami’s best chance is keeping Mahomes on the sideline with sustained drives and avoiding turnovers. If the Dolphins fall behind early and become one-dimensional, the game could get away from them.
Picks:
Chiefs ML
Chiefs -9.5/-10 lean
Under 45.5 — slight lean
Player prop: Patrick Mahomes OVER 235.5 passing yards
Chargers at Bills
Pregame line: Buffalo -7
Total: 49.5–50.5
This might be the best early-window game.
Justin Herbert gives Los Angeles enough firepower to hang around, but playing Buffalo on the road is another challenge entirely.
Josh Allen’s ability to create outside structure is the difference for me. If the Chargers sell out to stop the passing attack, Allen’s legs become another weapon.
Picks:
Bills ML
Bills -7 lean
Under 49.5
Player props:
Josh Allen OVER 239.5 passing yards
Josh Allen anytime TD — lean
Bengals at Steelers
Pregame line: Cincinnati -3.5
Total: 42.5
Throw the records away when these AFC North teams meet.
Joe Burrow should have opportunities through the air, but Pittsburgh’s pass rush and home-field advantage make laying more than a field goal uncomfortable.
Aaron Rodgers doesn’t necessarily need a huge statistical game. Pittsburgh needs to avoid turnovers, shorten the game and make Cincinnati earn every possession.
Best bet: Steelers +3.5
Player prop: Joe Burrow OVER 251.5 passing yards — lean
Texans at Colts
Pregame line: Houston -1.5
Total: 42.5
Basically a coin flip.
Houston has the quarterback capable of taking over the game in C.J. Stroud, but divisional road games rarely come easy.
This feels like one that could be decided by a late field goal.
Picks:
Texans ML
Under 42.5 — slight lean
Player prop: C.J. Stroud OVER 236.5 passing yards
Patriots at Jaguars
Jacksonville has the offensive ceiling advantage here.
Trevor Lawrence doesn’t need to force explosive plays on every possession. If Jacksonville stays patient and protects the football, New England could struggle to keep pace.
Pick: Jaguars ML
Player prop: Trevor Lawrence OVER 228.5 passing yards
Jets at Lions
Detroit at home remains one of the more difficult environments in football.
The Jets can make this interesting if they establish the run and keep Jared Goff off the field, but if Detroit starts stacking long scoring drives, New York may have difficulty matching them touchdown for touchdown.
Picks:
Lions ML
Lions -7
Over 49.5 — lean
Player prop: Jared Goff OVER 260.5 passing yards — lean
Panthers at Browns
Not exactly the glamorous game of Week 3.
This feels much more like a field-position battle than an offensive explosion. Cleveland’s defense gives the Browns the advantage in a game where one turnover could completely change the outcome.
Pick: Under 41.5
Player prop: Bryce Young UNDER 223.5 passing yards — lean
Titans at Giants
Another game where points could be difficult to find.
The total sitting around 37.5 tells the story. Rather than trying to predict which offense suddenly catches fire, I’d rather bet on defense, punts and field position.
Best bet: UNDER 37.5
Seahawks at Commanders
Seattle entered the matchup as one of Sunday’s biggest favorites, with the market reaching roughly Seahawks -8.5.
The player matchup I’m watching is Jaxon Smith-Njigba against Washington’s secondary.
JSN opened the season with 122 receiving yards and a touchdown in Week 1 before exploding for 155 yards and three touchdowns in Week 2. That workload makes him dangerous again here.
Picks:
Seahawks ML
Seahawks -8.5 — lean
Player props:
Jaxon Smith-Njigba anytime TD
JSN receiving yards OVER — lean
🏈 LATE AFTERNOON WINDOW
Cardinals at 49ers
Pregame line: San Francisco roughly -7.5 to -8.5
Total: roughly 47.5–48.5
Arizona can make this uncomfortable if it creates explosive plays, but San Francisco has too many ways to manufacture offense.
Rather than laying more than a touchdown, I prefer San Francisco straight up.
Pick: 49ers ML
Player prop: Brock Purdy OVER 235.5 passing yards — lean
Vikings at Buccaneers
One of Sunday’s toughest games to handicap.
The spread hovering around a point or two tells you there isn’t much separation between these teams.
Instead of forcing a side, I’d look toward the total.
Pick: Vikings ML — slight lean
Game prop: OVER 42.5 — slight lean
Raiders at Saints
The Raiders’ offense revolves heavily around Ashton Jeanty, making his workload one of the most attractive prop angles of the afternoon.
Jeanty entered Week 3 with 44 rushing attempts through two games, and New Orleans had struggled against the run early in the season.
If Vegas keeps this game within one possession, Jeanty should get plenty of opportunities.
Game pick: Raiders +4.5
🔥 Player prop: Ashton Jeanty OVER 69.5 rushing yards
🔥 Ravens at Cowboys — GAME OF THE DAY
Pregame line: Baltimore roughly -3 to -3.5
Total: 53.5–54.5
If you’re looking for fireworks, circle this one.
Baltimore-Dallas carried the biggest total of the Sunday slate.
Lamar Jackson against the Cowboys defense is the matchup I’m watching. Baltimore can attack through the air, use designed quarterback runs and then hammer Derrick Henry once the defense starts worrying about Lamar.
Dallas should produce points of its own, especially if Baltimore forces Dak Prescott into a high-volume passing afternoon.
That creates the ingredients for a shootout.
🔥 BEST BET: OVER 53.5
Other picks:
Ravens ML
Cowboys +3.5 — slight lean if available
Player Props
Lamar Jackson OVER 239.5 passing yards
Dak Prescott OVER 264.5 passing yards
Derrick Henry anytime touchdown
Derrick Henry 2+ TDs — long-shot sprinkle
This is the game where I’d rather attack offensive props than try to get cute with the spread.
🌙 SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL
Rams at Broncos
Pregame total: 44.5
This was essentially priced as a toss-up by kickoff after the line moved during the week.
Denver’s home-field advantage matters, especially with the altitude and a defense capable of making Matthew Stafford uncomfortable.
The Rams still have enough offensive weapons to move the football, but this feels like a game where Denver can keep Stafford from settling into a rhythm.
Picks:
Broncos ML — lean
Over 44.5 — slight lean
Player props:
Bo Nix rushing yards OVER — lean
Matthew Stafford UNDER 241.5 passing yards — lean
🎯 WEEK 3 PICK CARD
If I’m narrowing the entire Sunday slate down instead of betting everything:
🔥 Bills ML
🔥 Chiefs ML
🔥 49ers ML
🔥 Ravens-Cowboys OVER 53.5
🔥 Giants-Titans UNDER 37.5
🔥 Ashton Jeanty OVER 69.5 rushing yards
🔥 Jaxon Smith-Njigba anytime TD
🔥 Derrick Henry anytime TD
Early Bird Pick 3
Chiefs ML + Bills ML + 49ers ML
Keep it simple. Three teams with significant matchup advantages without worrying about whether they cover large spreads.
Player Prop Pick 3
Ashton Jeanty OVER 69.5 rushing yards
Jaxon Smith-Njigba anytime TD
Derrick Henry anytime TD
🎰 Lottery Ticket
For anybody looking for the high-risk Sunday sweat:
Chiefs ML
Bills ML
49ers ML
Ravens ML
Lions ML
Jaguars ML
Ashton Jeanty 70+ rushing yards
Derrick Henry anytime TD
Eight legs. Plenty of ways for it to go wrong. That’s why it’s the lottery ticket—not the bankroll play.
Final Word
Week 3 is where the NFL picture starts becoming a little clearer.
Two games can be noise. Three starts becoming a trend.
The biggest mistake this week may be chasing everything we saw during Weeks 1 and 2. Instead, I’m looking at workload, quarterback play and matchups.
My marquee game: Ravens vs. Cowboys.
My favorite game total: Ravens-Cowboys OVER.
My favorite rushing prop: Ashton Jeanty OVER 69.5.
My favorite TD prop: Jaxon Smith-Njigba anytime touchdown.
My conservative moneyline trio: Chiefs, Bills and 49ers.
As always, lines move throughout Sunday. Shop around for the best number and don’t turn a good bet into a bad one just because the line moved.
